His Dark Materials is a BBC / HBO co production and the budget is around 10 million per episode. I think with international streaming rights potentially being up in the air, the BBC have real opportunity to get the show seen by many more viewers, and notably can really push the budget up. It's likely the show on UK soil will be finding it's way to BritBox, which makes sense and isn't really a worry because UK viewers can watch it on TV / iPlayer / easily available DVDs (or just pirate it) Outside the UK the show goes through phases of popularity and around season 5 it really caught on internationally. I know this might sound bad at first (US interference with a British establishment) but there's a massive opportunity with Doctor Who leaving Netflix to up the budget and get back worldwide reach again.
